Refreshing architecture...right here in India!

i never liked liked what i see all around me in the name of architecture. the disliking just increased a lot after NID made me a little sensitive about life n design. i remeber my B.Arch thesis project of Chattisgarh Assembly house. one of the jury found it too futuristic, but then what are these prominent state buildings are meant to be ? futuristic, inspiring the people of the state or inward looking, rooted to the culture of the land? an optimal blend of both may be.......the thoughts remained then...unanswered...

Today when i saw the Tamilnadu's proposed assembly house concept by GMP architect, Germany. it answered most of my quest. on the first instance it just appears to be an contextual and superb design by the architect. The official press release by the architect regarding the design concept also is quite simple yet impressive. i m looking forward to find more about the project and experience the building may be when its done in 2010.

fine more about the project by fallowing is link.

amazing kindle!

Probably after ipod i consider this a break through product. Named as "Amazon Kindle ", the company defines it as a wireless reading device.A smart looking small hand held device through which one can read books, magazines in a more realistic manner than a pdf document . i think the designer is more honest to the core idea of reading a book rather tan simplifying or stripping a laptop.

i am so tempted to describe the product novelty, but its better fallow the official kindle page and watch the video there. @ 399$ a piece, it might sound a bit higher priced , but then good things always come for a price and it saves so many trees in the long run.

makes sense to me!!

Save resources....a typographers way!

"April 1, 2007 — FSI FontShop International proudly announces FF Mt, Erik Spiekermann's most economical typeface ever. Employing obscure but powerful techniques like vwl mmssn and cap reduction, FF Mt uses up to 50% less paper, screen, and wall space than other text faces without a single condensed letter."

_____________________________________________________________________

In the era of Pseudo-activism, where souls cry aloud for trivial causes and chose to be numb for the right one, Erik Spikerman's FF mt is certainly a solid step to save Earth's resources. anyways the language is already been considerably tweaked with the SMS ans IM lingo around us.... so why not a typeface for it.

*** DIP

It may sound like TOI Sunday box office review, but yesterday while discussing with Sanjay about diploma project he put very simple 3 criteria for a good diploma project. you can call it sanjay's 3 star (***) review..

1. how well did your research lead to or transformed into your design process.

2. how passionate you are about the project. may be a little intangible or subjective to judge but ya if you are ...its shows in the project.

3. do your document is a story ,telling the reader (who ever it may be) about what, how , when things happened in the project?

over these days i ve been hearing to all my faculties , students about all the expectations , crib , frustration about the diploma project at NID. but never ve i come across such clear, simple understanding of it...

the jealous "I"

it seem i am the only one in pain here.in this case half of it should be passed on to the cause of it ...if at all it still matters....i know i do matter,a little less may be.

i doesn't know why this turbulence strike me at this odd time...i still cant figure out of what element people are made of ....or how strong will power could be...

its not moments of solace now ....but then i experienced it after a long gap. somethings are still the same...lots more changed.

wish you all good things in life.

Making good use of INTERNET!

When you have fairly decent band width and you are too bored/tired of social networking sites or youtube, here is something to try out for. if you are a music lover and have noticeable variations of mood then log on to this cool site called musicovery which have this amazing collection of songs which could be mapped and clubbed as per genre of music and your mood. all this put in a simple clean appealing interface ......whats more it also have album arts (for the few unusual creatures like me)!

ya smart in fact, this experience of listening to what you like as per your mood. its really a huge leap from the age old wimap and definitely a better option than killing time in facebook or orkut.

happy listening ....

the GREEN surprise!

June 2003
since the day i first time landed in Delhi back 2003 i ve been an avid user of public transport. more than anything or a try to be responsible citizen it was the cheapest option for me. public transport ie. the broken buses packed with rude people ready to eat you up every now & then! to my luck the bus i used to take (route 764), standing with both the legs were luxury....... the daily 2 hours of travel really tested my patience and my mental break off point went quite high! the most frequent thought lingering in my mind was hw long these systems will sustain.....

Jan2008
the same roads of Delhi welcomed me with these eye candy green DTC buses. low floored, high capacity, huge glass windows, 2 levels of sitting , runs smooth and most importantly runs on CNG so reduced pollution as well. when  the whole India went mad bout tata's  small wonder NANO, i fall in love with these huge tata buses named MARCOPOLO!

believe me if u ever get a chance take a ride of it ......u wont regret leaving ur car back home!!!

28 th convo!

its been a hat rick now.......to sit in the back bench and witness probably the most beautiful moment of NID. the convocation. good friends, great seniors, batch mates ,
NID heart throbs this year i know most of the faces......and quite magical witness the moments.

when i asked few of them how does it feel .....most chose to say good, but not out of the world. may be yes...
u go back to respective work places and start the same life ....but then cant deny the fact that u officially an alumni now....

just a curious observation in today's proceeding ....the graduate register , containing the names of the graduates in which the chairman signs is running out of page.......

then n there only i made this heartfelt wish.

"PLZ PLZ PLZ................ I WANT MY NAME IN THIS REGISTER ONLY! "

congrats to all who made it to 28th convo....n cu on 29th .....one the front rows!

joy of serving :an evening at SEWA CAFE

amidst a busy Sunday afternoon , the phone call reminded me of the commitment to volunteer at the "SEWA CAFE". i don't know whether it was a whole hearted decision , a politically correct move or a wanna be cool type idea to get registered...anyways its 6.30 pm. and i with Rujuta reached there.....

what a warm welcome with a tika, small and sweet introduction and start to work right away . as it was first day its a custom to wash dishes....but then WASH DISHES for the whole evening. lets try .....part of the sink was already occupied by a great friend Anirudh, teacher by profession, passionate bout serving here . its more than a year He's serving here .....besides that all the people (most of which i cant even remember the names) are just happily doing their jobs....at times forcing me to wonder, if it works like this ...everyday?

gradually the no of persons on the eating tables increased, so are the plates to wash for us. we changed our turns to wash , wipe it dry job hoping it ll work. .....ya it worked, the time just flew by and we were hungry at the end of it.
i can say i enjoyed the food more than ever may be because of the sparkling plate is washed by me!!!

at the end of the day, time to say good bye, with a really satisfied heart n full stomach.the first day's experience of sitting on the other side of serving counter was obviously more enjoyable,
but time spent on this side serving people without any apparent motive, just for a change was most satisfying.

out of the many things that came to my mind during the time, the most lingering thought that remained is...

"when u do things with love it shows."

dhin chak phirki....

u relise things and probably miss it after u loose the things.

this post and thought reffers to my days at lopez design and some happier moments. at the middle of a busy day anthony steped in with this high tech phirki in hand. looks quite simple with having  4 LED lights connected to tiny power sources. when the thing spins might have some sensor or just a random
on-off of the lights. and the result.....quite a visual treat of endless patterns .......

the thing quite amazed all of us and instantly the whole office turned into
kindergarten class room .  the fallowing day on public demand and anthony's
inherent good will we all are gifted with of the "DHIN CHAK PHIRKI"......yes the class room just got bigger and louder....

moral of the story:
at the end of the day we all wanna be kid again, and what's better than this when your boss provids the means to it.....in the middle of a busy day!

good design goes unnoticed?

navoch!

over the last week end i met navoch after 4 yrs. my room mate during B.Arch, electrical engineer turned manager of bussiness administration(MBA) finally landed giving statergy consultation to a big company (arbitly the word reminded me of Dr. Koshey). these days i ve seen the superb statergy of navoch in dealing life, chasing girls, cheating exams, sneaking into ............, but the thing that amazes me is the cool head in which he does it all. i rarely seen him being panic, worried bout things .he continues all these even now......good thing hez getting paid to all his statergies.

over these yrs life ve changed drastically for both of us. both ve achived a lot, lost a few things....but when we met that day.....we started from where we left it last time........as if its one of those good old hostel days...

nice to meet u dude after yrs and find that things ve not really changed for us!!
:)
